Just wondering if there are any English speaking americans here who have taken Japanese as their foreign language in college. I'm going through what will be my schedule this fall at UNC-Chapel Hill and I'll need to fit a foreign language in either this semester or next. I took two years of Latin in highschool, don't know a word of it, so I might as well start over with something new. I figure learning japanese will help me translate some of those [ www.co.jp ] addresses I'm always checking out and since I'm an import car enthusiast I would hopefully find it interesting. If anyone's tried this, give me some insight on the difficulty of the course and whether you would choose to take Japanese again. The course I'm looking into is "Elementary Japanese 101" - Intro to modern japanese with text and supplementary materials. Hiragana and Katakana scripts are introduced. Weekly class hours devoted to basic sentence pattern exercises, speaking and writing practice, and creative application. Thanks
